Orlu, Imo State – Residents of the Orlu Senatorial Zone have issued a strong warning to their elected representatives, urging them to improve performance and deepen engagement with the people they serve.
The call was made by the Orluzurume Youths Assembly during the formal presentation of a comprehensive 72-page Legislative Performance Assessment Committee (LPAC) report, which evaluated the activities of 17 lawmakers from the zone.
The lawmakers assessed include 12 members of the Imo State House of Assembly, four members of the House of Representatives, and the Senator representing Orlu Zone.
Prince Izunna Obiefule, President of the Orluzurume Youths Assembly, expressed disappointment over the low level of interface between many lawmakers and their constituents. He noted that the report was compiled following extensive consultations across all 12 local government areas in the zone.
“The report is not intended to ridicule, embarrass or prosecute any lawmaker,” Obiefule said. “It is a sincere civic effort aimed at strengthening democratic accountability and encouraging excellence in public service.”
He identified key concerns raised by constituents, including inadequate constituency engagement, limited public accountability, weak communication of legislative activities, and insufficient empowerment programmes.
The assessment, led by Committee Chairman Achi Nnamdi, was based on direct feedback from communities and villages across the senatorial district.
Obiefule emphasised that the exercise is meant to foster a culture of measured performance and responsive leadership.
“This report is not a judgment against your personalities; it is an assessment of public service. Leadership is a sacred trust, and every evaluation presents an opportunity for reflection, improvement, and renewed commitment to the people,” he added.
