A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has warned that members who fail to adhere to the party’s rules and principles will be expelled.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, George said the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) is set to meet on May 27 to take decisive action aimed at restoring discipline and unity within the party.
He lamented that many politicians within the PDP were focused solely on personal interests, with little regard for public welfare.
“As politicians, is it only about personal gain? What about the impact? Democracy is about managing the nation’s resources for the benefit of the people, and that’s not what we’re seeing,” George said.
He stressed that the upcoming NEC meeting will be used to address internal issues and reinforce party values.
“I’m hoping that on the 27th, during our closed-door meeting, we’ll tell ourselves some hard truths. Those who cannot abide by the rules and regulations of the party can be thrown out. The NEC has the power to do that,” he stated.
The PDP has been plagued by internal crises since the 2023 general elections, with little visible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Some party members have criticized the leadership for failing to sanction those openly supporting the APC while remaining in the PDP.
Recently, former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, declared that he would stay in the PDP while continuing to work for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 reelection bid.
