Former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, has painted a grim picture of the current state of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), likening it to a patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Speaking on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Suswam said the main opposition party is battling for survival amid internal crises and defections.
“There are many who are waiting to see how the PDP ends,” he said. “Right now, the PDP is in the hospital—it’s in the ICU. But it can still be saved if the right medicines are administered.”
His comments come just days after the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, made a surprise appearance at the party’s expanded Governors’ Forum meeting in Abuja—his first in several months, amid speculation about his allegiance and deepening tensions within the party.
Suswam stressed that it is the responsibility of PDP governors to take decisive action and salvage the party from its current predicament.
“It is incumbent upon the PDP governors to ensure the party is rescued,” he stated, adding that whether the intervention of former Senate President Bukola Saraki will yield positive results remains to be seen in the coming days.
