Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the National Central Bureau (NCB-INTERPOL), Lagos Annex, have rescued two Colombian nationals held captive by a human trafficking syndicate in Lagos.
The breakthrough came after actionable intelligence from INTERPOL-NCB, Bogotá, on August 26, 2026. The victims, Maria Camila Rodas Ortiz and Yuliet Fernanda Rios Mesa, were fraudulently lured to Nigeria, held against their will, and had their travel documents seized by certain Chinese nationals who remain at large.
Acting on the tip-off, police operatives launched a covert operation and located the criminal hideout in Lagos the same day. Both women were safely rescued. The suspects fled the scene as the team approached. Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest all members of the syndicate.
The rescued victims are now in safe custody and receiving necessary support. The Colombian Embassy in Accra is working closely with the Bureau to provide hotel accommodation and secure emergency travel documents for their return to Bogotá.
