Uber is shutting down its ride-hailing service in Nigeria with effect from Wednesday, 2 September 2026, ending more than a decade of operations in the country.
The company informed users of the decision in a message, stating that it followed a thorough review of its business operations. Uber described the move as difficult.
The platform first entered the Nigerian market in Lagos in 2014, linking passengers with independent drivers. In its message, Uber thanked customers for using the service for daily travel, family visits and exploring cities, and for trusting it to provide safe journeys.
The company acknowledged that the exit may disrupt users’ routines and apologised for the inconvenience. Its Help Centre will stay open until 23 September 2026 to handle final account-related questions. Uber closed by thanking Nigerians for the welcome the service received over the years.
Uber’s presence in Nigeria spanned 12 years, beginning with its launch in Lagos and expanding to serve riders who relied on the platform for everyday mobility needs through partnerships with independent transportation providers.
Service ends on 2 September 2026. Support through the Help Centre remains available for account matters until 23 September 2026.
