A federal lawmaker from Imo State has added three more communities to a constituency electrification programme, taking the total number of towns and villages supplied with new transformers to seven.
Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato Federal Constituency and chairs the House Committee on Downstream Petroleum, has installed 500KVA transformers and related equipment in Ogwume, Dikenafai and Akpulu. The work forms part of Operation Light Up Ideato, an effort to improve electricity access in Ideato North and South.
Installation in Akpulu is complete. Work is still under way in Ogwume and Dikenafai. Earlier phases of the same programme delivered transformers to Umuopia, Obodoukwu, Abukwa and Umukegwu.
The lawmaker’s media office said the expansion reflects “the commitment of Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere to addressing critical infrastructure needs at the grassroots and ensuring that communities that have long experienced inadequate electricity infrastructure are not left behind.”
It described the scheme as an ongoing, community-focused programme rather than a one-off intervention, with more transformers planned for other communities identified as underserved.
Ugochinyere said the aim is to reach every community in Ideato that still lacks adequate power infrastructure and to close gaps in electricity supply across the constituency.
The project includes transformers, cables and other electrical fittings. No timetable was given for the remaining work or for the next communities to be added.
