Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has advised Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal to set aside political differences and build a working relationship with President Bola Tinubu for the benefit of the state.
Speaking on Monday during the commissioning of the new Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and the renovated Zamfara College of Arts and Science in Gusau, Kalu warned that Zamfara could miss out on critical development opportunities if the governor fails to engage constructively with the President.
Kalu, a former governor of Abia State and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), clarified that he wasn’t urging Governor Lawal to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but to adopt what he called “political economics” by working with the Tinubu-led administration.
“I was a PDP governor, and President Tinubu was in the Alliance for Democracy (AD), yet we maintained a strong personal and political relationship,” Kalu said. “Our children were close, and my daughters even lived with the Tinubus while schooling in Lagos.”
He urged Lawal to put Zamfara’s development first, regardless of party lines.
“Remain in PDP if you wish, but relate with the APC-led Federal Government to attract more resources and projects to Zamfara. Political parties should not hinder economic growth and development,” he added.
Kalu stressed that bridging political divides is key to accessing federal support and ensuring the people of Zamfara are not left behind.
