A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayekooto Akindele, has declared that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai stand no chance of winning the 2027 presidential election, regardless of their political alliances.
In a post shared on Facebook, Akindele stated that even if the duo were to align with notorious terrorists like Abubakar Shekau and Bello Turji, their efforts would still end in failure.
“By the time power returns to the North in 2031, it will be handed to a Pan-Nigerian politician. People like Atiku and El-Rufai must never be allowed near power again,” Akindele wrote. “If they like, let them merge with Shekau and Turji, they will still suffer a massive defeat in 2027.”
His comments come amid growing speculation around a new opposition coalition recently unveiled by Atiku. The alliance reportedly includes prominent figures such as former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and El-Rufai, among others.
Atiku has said the purpose of the coalition is to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
El-Rufai, who recently defected from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), criticized his former party for what he described as a lack of internal democracy since President Tinubu assumed office.
Meanwhile, former SDP presidential candidate Adewale Adebayo has confirmed that talks are ongoing between the party and opposition leaders including Atiku and Obi. He noted that if these politicians can embrace the culture and principles of the SDP, they may have a real shot at defeating Tinubu and the APC in 2027.
