Former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Muktar Shagari, has expressed strong confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election prospects, stating that the North will fully support him in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday, Shagari said President Tinubu has demonstrated commendable leadership, particularly in the area of national security.
“We in the APC have absolute confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s ability to lead this country effectively,” Shagari stated. “When he assumed office, the nation was facing serious challenges, especially in the economy. He has since taken bold steps, and we are beginning to see positive results.”
He emphasized that the President has remained committed to implementing the programs he promised Nigerians and argued that a second term is essential for continuity and consolidation.
“For President Tinubu to fully deliver on his promises, he needs a second term. We in the APC believe in his vision and his capacity to move Nigeria forward,” he said. “Our role now is to give him moral and political support and to ensure there are no distractions. The endorsement he received at both the North-West and national levels of the party is justified, constitutional, and timely.”
Addressing speculation about voter sentiment in the North, Shagari dismissed claims that the region may not back Tinubu in 2027.
“Some people are suggesting northerners won’t vote for Tinubu, but that’s not true,” he stated. “In the North, we have no issues with President Tinubu. He’s doing well, especially in tackling security challenges. Things are improving, and many people recognize that.”
He concluded by reiterating the APC’s unwavering support for the President, saying, “As far as we in the APC are concerned, we will stand solidly behind Tinubu. I am confident he will win re-election in 2027.”
