The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has voiced serious concerns over the deteriorating state of the economy and rising insecurity under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
This position was made known during the party’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, held on Tuesday in Abuja.
The PDP also announced that it would deliberate on the resolutions of its South-East caucus at the next NEC meeting scheduled for June 30, 2025.
After multiple postponements, the meeting was eventually convened to address urgent issues affecting both the party and the nation at large.
In a communique presented by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Iliya Damagum, the PDP strongly criticized the current government, citing policy failures, economic hardship, and rampant corruption.
“NEC expresses serious concern over the sorry and melancholic state of affairs of our nation under the irredeemably exploitative, insensitive, and anti-people APC administration of President Bola Tinubu,” the statement read.
The communique further accused the government of policy inconsistency, large-scale corruption, budget padding, and misappropriation of public funds — all of which, according to the party, have contributed to infrastructural decay and a loss of investor confidence.
It also condemned what it described as attempts by the APC-led government to undermine democratic institutions and establish a one-party state.
“NEC stands in firm resistance to the sinister plot by the Tinubu-led APC to turn Nigeria into a one-party totalitarian state, as evidenced in the desperate attempts to stifle and annihilate opposition parties through open siege, threats, and intimidation of opposition figures and institutions of democracy in Nigeria,” the statement continued.
Reaffirming its commitment to democratic ideals, the PDP emphasized its support for the rule of law and the rights of Nigerians to participate freely in a multi-party democratic system.
