Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has declared he will boycott all meetings of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) until the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other alleged impostors are removed from the party.
Lamido, a founding member of the PDP, was notably absent from the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja. The NEC convened to address pressing internal issues threatening the unity of the opposition party.
Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, Lamido accused Wike of undermining the party that elevated him, describing the former Rivers State Governor as a “disaster.”
“Wike is a disaster and a product of the PDP – the very party that gave him a platform. Now, he’s working to destroy it,” Lamido said.
“I refuse to participate in meetings where impostors are present. I remain a loyal PDP member, but I won’t lend credibility to this charade.”
Lamido also condemned the recent closure of the PDP National Secretariat by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), attributing the action to Wike’s influence.
“Sealing the PDP headquarters – the institution that shaped your political rise – is not only un-African and un-Nigerian, it’s an outrageous abuse of power,” he said.
“Wike lacks the moral and cultural grounding that our political tradition demands.”
He further slammed the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) for failing to sanction members accused of anti-party activities.
“What exactly is the NWC afraid of?” Lamido asked.
“Why hasn’t Wike been expelled? Why is Samuel Ortom, who openly backed President Tinubu, still sitting on the Board of Trustees? These are clear violations. If the PDP wants to survive, it must clean house.”
Lamido also weighed in on the Federal Government’s recent ultimatum to defaulters of ground rent in the FCT, commending the move but criticizing Wike’s alleged motives.
He accused Wike of ordering the secretariat’s closure to curry favor with President Tinubu but expressed confidence that the President would eventually distance himself from Wike.
“The irony is that the same man Wike is trying to please is now calling him to order,” Lamido said.
“Even Tinubu is realizing Wike is unreliable and lacking in pedigree. It’s only a matter of time before he’s cast aside.”
Lamido concluded by warning of a creeping one-party state in Nigeria, calling the situation “state-sponsored sabotage.”
The PDP has been grappling with internal strife and leadership challenges since 2022, as it continues to struggle to present a united front ahead of future elections.
