Phil Amaefula and J.O. Moses have been elected as the Chairperson and Secretary of FIDA Imo, respectively, following their remarkable victories in the FIDA Imo elections held yesterday, Friday the 13th day of December 2024.
Mrs. Amaefula defeated her opponent, Mrs. Sylvia Iwejor, to clinch the Chairperson position, while Lady Chioma Iwueze cakewalked to victory to become the Vice Chairperson, as she ran unopposed.
In an astonishing twist, the underdog candidate, J.O. Moses, pipped her opponent, a former Caretaker Chairperson of FIDA Imo, and notable figure in NBA Owerri politics, Mrs. Ndidi Anike Val-Okeoma, to become the Secretary of the association.
Vivian Ottih, a prominent Nigerian journalist and human rights activist, who currently serves as the Chairperson of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) won her opponent, Mrs. Obby Onyeulor, to become the Assistant Secretary. Otti was the Deputy Governorship candidate for the Advanced Democratic Party (ADP) in the last Guber election in Imo State.
Omenukwa Chinyere, Princess Ngozi Anyanwu, Dr. Onyeanwuna Chikaodi and Amarachi Ike did not have opponents to beat, as the quartet become the Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Publicity Secretary and Welfare Officer, respectively, of the association.
Their election is seen as a significant achievement, reflecting a strong commitment to advancing women’s rights and legal advocacy in the State.
This leadership change is expected to enhance FIDA’s initiatives and impact in Imo State, promoting gender equality and legal support for women in the State.
