Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has directed the Katsina State Ministry of Water Resources to immediately carry out a comprehensive technical assessment of two collapsed earth dams located in Kore village and Majen Wayya in Batagarawa and Charanchi Local Government Areas.
The governor issued the directive on Tuesday at the Government House in Katsina while receiving a delegation of stakeholders, including defectors from the ADC and PDP who officially joined the APC.
Radda described the collapse of the dams as a serious infrastructural challenge requiring urgent attention to protect agricultural production and improve food security in the state.
According to him, the dams play a vital role in supporting irrigation farming, rural livelihoods, and agricultural productivity in the affected communities. He explained that the assessment would pave the way for the rehabilitation of the facilities.
“We must act quickly to restore these dams because our farmers depend on them for their livelihoods. Agriculture remains central to our development agenda, and water infrastructure is key to achieving that goal,” the governor said.
He assured residents that rehabilitation work would commence once the technical report is submitted and approved, stressing that agriculture remains a major focus of his administration.
On the political developments, Radda welcomed the new APC members and promised equal opportunities and full integration into the party structure. He directed the APC State Chairman, Dr. Bashir Gambo Saulawa, to facilitate their smooth inclusion.
The governor also urged the defectors to support grassroots mobilization efforts and enlighten the public on his administration’s achievements in agriculture, healthcare, education, infrastructure, security, and empowerment programmes.
Earlier, APC State Chairman, Dr. Bashir Gambo Saulawa, defended the administration against criticism, describing attacks on the government as politically motivated and insisting that its achievements are evident across several sectors.
Leader of the defectors, Alhaji Hamza Dalhatu, reaffirmed the commitment of former ADC and PDP members to support the APC and Governor Radda ahead of future elections. He also appealed for the rehabilitation of the two dams, noting that they were originally constructed during his time as a member of the House of Representatives.
