The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Abayomi Tella, has urged party aspirants to strengthen their connection with the electorate and intensify grassroots mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tella emphasized that the PDP could no longer afford a “trial and error” approach if it hopes to regain political relevance in the state. He warned that failure to build trust and genuine relationships with the people could cost the party its popularity and chances at the polls.
He gave the charge on Monday at a political gathering hosted by Toyin Amuzu, the PDP candidate for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency in the 2023 elections.
“To all our intending aspirants, don’t wait until six months before the election to start reaching out to the people,” Tella said. “That’s why we lose popularity and elections. Start building relationships now — it’s not always about money. Engage the grassroots and do it early.”
He also called for unity within the party, stressing that only through collective effort could the PDP make significant strides in 2027.
“We must use this platform to unite the party. Whatever strength we think we have lies in our unity. We can’t afford another trial and error. 2027 is our year, but we must take full responsibility and act accordingly,” he added.
Also speaking at the event, Toyin Amuzu noted, “If more of our representatives, senators, and governors had empowered people during their tenures, many citizens would already have meaningful jobs.”
