The National Officers Elections Appeal Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA-NOEAC, has formally announced the commencement of post-election proceedings following the Nigerian Bar Association National Officers’ Elections held on 18 July 2026.
According to the official notice, the Committee’s secretariat has been activated in accordance with the Nigerian Bar Association Constitution, 2015, as amended in 2025, to receive and determine appeals arising from the outcome of the election.
Candidates who intend to challenge any return made by the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, ECNBA, are required to submit their appeals within seven days from the date the election results were announced.
Each appeal must be presented by way of a notice or petition and must be accompanied by all relevant supporting documents. The petition must also comply strictly with the applicable provisions of the Second Schedule to the NBA Constitution.
All appeals are to be submitted electronically to the NBA-NOEAC through stellaowu@gmail.com within the stipulated seven-day period.
The Committee stated that appeals may be determined based solely on the documents submitted by the petitioner.
However, where necessary, it may invite the parties to an oral hearing, which may be conducted either virtually or physically.
The NBA-NOEAC is expected to conclude the hearing and determination of every properly submitted appeal within 14 days of receiving it. The Committee further stated that its decision on any appeal shall be final and binding on the parties.
The notice, dated 18 July 2026, was signed by the Chairman of the Committee, Adizua Chu-Chu Okoroafor, SAN, and its Secretary, Stella Omoikhefe Chidozie, Esq.
