Mr. Kenny Okolugbo, a former Delta State Commissioner and current Special Adviser on Communications and Strategy to the Senate President, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), calling for a thorough investigation into what he describes as a “coordinated cyberattack and defamation campaign” aimed at damaging his reputation.
In the petition, Okolugbo claimed that his verified X (formerly Twitter) account was hacked and used to publish false and damaging statements attributed to him. He alleged that the fabricated content was then amplified by three prominent social media influencers — Tunde Ednut (@mazitundeednut), Rufai Oseni (@ruffydfire), and Adeola Fayehun (@adeolafayehun). According to him, the trio further embellished the fake post with additional falsehoods, including allegations of phone cloning, voice manipulation, and fictitious meetings in London.
“These allegations are not only untrue but also impossible based on verified evidence,” Okolugbo stated. “Most disturbing is that the post was circulated using identical language and timing across their platforms, indicating a coordinated disinformation campaign.”
He further alleged that the campaign was orchestrated to lend credibility to earlier accusations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan.
Okolugbo emphasized that the false narratives promoted online were not part of the original hacked post, suggesting a deliberate effort to mislead the public and damage his public image.
In his petition, he urged the Nigeria Police Force to:
- Launch a full-scale investigation into the hacking and impersonation of his verified social media account, citing relevant provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015;
- Identify and prosecute those responsible for the alleged forgery, defamation, and dissemination of false content;
- Preserve all related digital evidence from social media platforms and third-party service providers for forensic analysis.
Highlighting the urgency of the matter, Okolugbo described the incident as both a serious personal concern and an issue of public interest. He called on the Police to act “swiftly and decisively.”
To support his claims, Okolugbo submitted travel documents showing that he has not left Nigeria in 2025 and was last in London on November 5, 2024. He also included printouts of the alleged defamatory posts for context and evidence.
As of the time of this report, the Nigeria Police Force has not issued an official response to the petition.
