Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has clarified that his participation in the political coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections is driven by a desire to tackle bad governance, hunger, and poverty—not personal political ambition.
Obi made this known while responding to questions surrounding reports of an alleged agreement between him and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, in which he would serve as Atiku’s running mate in the forthcoming election. The reports claim Atiku has pledged to serve only one term and is willing to formalize the agreement in writing.
Speaking at an event organized by the Anglican Church in Kubwa, Abuja, Obi declined to confirm or deny the existence of such a pact. Instead, he reiterated his commitment to the coalition’s core objectives.
“You can interpret the reports however you want,” Obi said. “I am in this coalition to fight against bad governance, hunger, and poverty.”
His comments reflect a clear focus on national development and the well-being of citizens rather than political positioning.
