Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticized former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, over his recent remarks concerning the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking during his monthly media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike accused Amaechi of spreading falsehoods during his 60th birthday celebration, particularly over claims of widespread hunger in the country.
The FCT Minister alleged that Amaechi is not genuinely concerned about the plight of Nigerians but is instead “hungry for power.”
“I don’t understand how someone would use his 60th birthday – a time when people are supposed to celebrate him – to peddle lies. It’s unfortunate,” Wike said.
He continued: “Amaechi served as Speaker from 1999 to 2007, and everyone knows he was the most pompous Speaker. He was even living in London while serving as Speaker. He became Governor from 2007 to 2015 and then Minister for another eight years.
“Throughout all those years, he never talked about hunger. Now, just two years after leaving office, he’s suddenly concerned? No – he’s simply hungry for power.”
Wike further claimed that Amaechi’s recent alignment with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai is motivated by his inability to stay out of political relevance.
“He can’t just stay out of power, that’s the real issue,” Wike said.
