Bode George, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and member of its Board of Trustees, has declared that the party has been “resurrected” following recent internal efforts to resolve its ongoing crisis.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, George expressed optimism about the party’s future shortly after the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which aimed to address lingering issues within the party.
“We have already done the resurrection today. An Iroko tree doesn’t die — this party is an Iroko tree because its tap root is so deep,” George said, emphasizing the PDP’s resilience and historical strength.
He criticized some party members for being driven by personal interests, straying from the ideals of the party’s founding fathers. “We have learnt a lesson, and that lesson was clear from the meeting yesterday and today. It reminded me of our peak moments as a party. I left the chambers feeling reinvigorated,” he said.
George added that the NEC gathering marked a turning point, as it helped the party reflect on its past missteps. “This party is not for one individual. No one can claim ownership of the PDP,” he stressed.
He also echoed the sentiments of the PDP Board of Trustees Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, who urged party members to abandon selfish pursuits and embrace selflessness for the greater good of the party.
When asked if he would consider defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), George responded with a firm “no.” He criticized the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and expressed concern over the growing hardship in the country.
According to George, the APC did not legitimately win the 2023 presidential election, citing what he described as a flawed electoral process.
